Remember those tapes you used to make for friends, usually called things like “Brilliant Mix” or “Check This Out”? Well, a simple site brings all those memories flooding back.
Muxtape takes the simple concept of the self-made compilation tape and nicely translates it to a simple web interface. Create an account (takes 10 seconds), then think of a name for your mix and start uploading. You have a maximum of 15 songs which is equal to a C90 cassette. The site converts your upload in to a stream and allows anyone to listen to either the whole thing sequentially or jump around. Each mix has a unique identifier so you can send the URL to a friend - the beauty is there is no need for them to register so they can listen straight away. Downside is there is no voting or rating system so occasionally you get a duff mix, but I stress occasionally sinc ethe beauty of this thing is each ‘Tape’ is obviously a labour-of-love for the person who uploaded it.
Simple. Fun. No hassle. No DRM. No registrations. Love it.
