What Is Spool.fm?

screenshot_22.pngDiving into the same waters as Last.fm comes Spool. This is a stripped down version of the discovery radio format made popular by sites like Last.fm and Pandora. It allows you to search an artiste and within seconds create a playlist of your favourite tracks and artistes. Based on your search Spool will immediately suggest artistes who ‘Sound Alike’, and allow you to send your playlist to a friend. In fact, it actually gets all its information from the AudioScrobbler database (which is owned by Last.fm) so will give you exactly the same results. Given this then, Spool’s one advantage appears to be you can play the tracks of your choice instantly, which Last.fm can’t do due to their DMCA compliance. Which naturally makes us impressed that Spool.fm managed to get the license to do this…. (what was that you said?????)
