Million Media

See Things Differently

Google Music Trends

Google Music Trends provides a snapshot of what people are listening to, or at least, people who have downloaded Google Talk. It monitors iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player and Yahoo Music Engine, and can therefore be thought of as a competitor of Last.fm’s Scrobbler.

1 What I’ve Done – Linkin Park
2 The Way I Am – Eminem
3 Goodbye My Lover – James Blunt
4 Ruby – Kaiser Chiefs
5 Sahana – Udit Narayanan & Chinmayi
6 How To Save A Life – The Fray
7 Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol
8 My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion
9 Old Yellow Bricks – Arctic Monkeys
10 Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd

As ever, when looking at these, I’m always struck by how many ‘evergreen’ tracks are featured in the Top Ten. Maybe because traditional sales and airplay charts have never been able to indicate how often tracks are played within people’s home environment, we can now see how the popularity of classic songs and artistes seem to increase over time.
