See Things Differently

Analysis: Comparing Traffic of Imeem, Virb, Purevolume, Rawkus & Taglines

Using Alexa we can see how new social networks compare in terms of traffic. Clearly Imeem is starting to hit a critical mass, and over the last 6 months has built up a momentum. In late December 2006 to mid January, something caused traffic to increase. What caused this is not apparent – we looked at their press releases, news items etc and nothing stood out. If you know please comment.

The traffic volume does not tell us anything about the quality of the traffic, and whether Imeem is better for music artistes – the increase may be due to better photo sharing for example. However, clearly there are more visitors, more potential for adding friends and more networking potential. We also like the fact Imeem is one of the very few social profiles that link to Amazon and iTunes – more a token effort really, but an effort all the same.

compare traffic

btw, if you’re wondering what happens to the graph if you add MySpace, Bebo, Hi5 or Piczo to the comparison, let me tell you – these sites flat line at the very bottom of the graph, which tells you the dominant networks remain the same – for now.
