Online Publicity Is More Than Sending A Press Release

Is there really no such thing as “bad publicity”?

We think there is “Publicity” and “Good Publicity”, which is effective, targeted and helps you achieve your campaign goals. It’s an essential part of entertainment marketing. Question is, how do you get it? We like that other old truism – “By knowing the right people”

The fact is, whilst the internet makes everyone equal, some are more equal than others. It all boils down to INFLUENCE. A journalist at a popular music portal has a lot whilst the average blogger may influence his friends, but still has some way to go….

Online Publicity is about targeting people with INFLUENCE to try and persuade them to talk about what you want them to talk about. Perhaps it’s an event, a band, a new show or something you have done. Whatever it is, find people who have influence and will be interested. Present them with a story and try to get a feature or placement on their website, and hopefully a link to your website. But remember, only send your publicity to people who have given you permission. This takes time. And patience. And lots of phone calls, emails and nights out.

    I agree.
    It’s definitely about permission.
It’s interesting to see the different terminology used by different folks.
I think the way people speak about ‘publicity’ is much rooted in the old interruption headset.
In my experience it is nearly impossible to persuade people online. However, you can involve them.
Here’s my thoughts on the difference between online publicity and online PR.
    All the best,
    Michiel
