Million Media

See Things Differently

How do you see “Britons Download 1.2bn Illegal Tracks A Year”?

I’m sure you’ve seen this moving spiral. Stare at it for 15-20 seconds, then at the back of your hand – the back of your hand appears to be moving. It’s an optical illusion caused by your eyes compensating for the one-way movement of the spiral.

Take this statement released today by the BPI – “The cost to the industry of illegal downloading was £984m in lost retail sales”.

Another way of looking at it is, “The cost to artists of the inability & reluctance of record labels to license music services & P2P networks at a price the public want to pay is costing them £984m”

It all depends on how you look at things.
