Amazon Are Wrong, But The Labels Must License

Sometimes even a hero can get it wrong. Check out Lemmy. I think Amazon are amazing too, although I doubt their version of ‘Killed By Death’ would be as good. Amazon say they don’t need a license for their new cloud player, but as they’re about to find out, they’re wrong. To make a copy of a licensed work, you need permission from the copyright owner. Amazon say it’s just like an external drive but here is where their argument comes unstuck, because strictly speaking, if you copy a track on to an external hard drive, you’re probably in breach of the copyright license. (The exception is if you actually bought the MP3, but then, how many people actually do?!) .

So, the labels will likely win. However, for them to prevent this ‘Locker’ from happening is insane, but since when has that lead to them changing their policies?
