Facebook Timeline: What Artists, Venues And Labels Need To Know

If you would like help changing your Facebook Page please contact us.

This month Facebook will convert ALL official Pages over to ‘Timelines”. This could prove valuable for musicians and labels who post a lot of visual content since the timeline provides much more visual and exciting ways of presenting videos and photographs. For good examples see Burberry and Nike.

There are some important points to optimise your page:

  • Ideally you need a cover photo of 851×315 px for the top of your page
  • You need a square profile pic from 32×32 up to 180×180
  • You can customise the pictures used for your Apps – great if you use an HTML tab to promote a tour or new release. Make them 111×71 px
  • You can pin your most important story to the top of your page for up to 7 days – e.g. a gig or tour announcement
  • Apps can now be either narrow (520px) or wide (810px) meaning more space for ticket apps or videos.

Overall, the changes look positive, although initially it was a disappointment to lose the ability to make a tab the default landing page.
