BTW, The “P” in B.P.I. stands for ‘Phonographic“, which my dictionary says is “chiefly historical an early sound-reproducing machine that used cylinders to record as well as reproduce sound.”

As the British government’s consultation on copyright reform closed, the BPI issued a warning claiming ‘excessive changes’ risk having a negative impact on the growth of the UK’s creative industries. “BPI supports updating the copyright framework to enable legitimate uses of music, such as copying CDs onto an mp3 player or smartphone, provided this is consistent with European law. But many of Government’s proposals strip away the ability to earn a living from creativity, simply to make it easier for third parties, such as US tech companies, to exploit music commercially without paying,” says boss Geoff Taylor. “We hope Government will look again at the serious flaws in the evidence presented for many of its proposals to reform copyright and instead begin backing British talent .”
